How German Ingenuity Inspired America: More Fun, More Beauty, More Freedom, by Lynne Breene (German-American Heritage Foundation of the USA, 2020) covers “German discoveries, inventions, and artistic works that have helped shape America—making it clear that the long list of achievements Germans have amassed over the centuries is due not only to their intellect but also to an innate sense of decency, as well.”

Breene approaches the German dimension in American history by focusing on the contributions of Germans and their descendants to the making of America. The book’s sub-title reflects how creatively they are explored. It contains three sections illustrating how German ingenuity has contributed to the fun, beauty, and freedom that America is known for. Each section covers a panorama of interesting topics: in Part I: More Fun, for example, chapters cover: “Savoring the Cuisine” and “Preparing for Santa”; Part II: More Beauty looks at “Paintings with History” and “Architectural Riches”; and Part III: More Freedom examines “Freedom from Bondage” and “Freedom of Expression”.
