Sonneberg Museums tell the story of toy making.

Toys, toys, toys! Little did I know as a child, reveling in the book, The Toys of Nuremberg, that Nuremberg wasn’t the toy capital of the world (though it has a fine toy museum there) but that the Thuringian town of Sonneberg was.

Surely, as Nuremberg’s toys did in my book, Sonneberg’s toys would have jumped or rolled discontentedly from their shelves if they had been forced to wait to be sold, and Sonneberg children would have joined Nuremberg children in protest. What a grand parade it would have been! But Sonneberg toys never stayed on the shelves at all.
