Enjoy an e-bike ride along Bavaria’s “Romantic Road”.

Medieval Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Bavaria, one of the crown jewels on the “Romantic Road” welcomes just under 3 million visitors from around the world each year. The vast majority of them never see the beautiful Tauber Valley, except maybe a brief glimpse from the former castle garden during the Night Watchman Tour. That’s a real pity as the easy, safe bike path which follows the peaceful Tauber River (that’s where the “ob der Tauber” [above the Tauber] comes from) is a travel highlight. A ride along the path can be enjoyed at a leisurely e-bike pace in under five hours, including a beer break.
What is an “e-assist” bike? Sitting on your bum, pressing a throttle, and riding along (like one does on an American moped) is not legal in Germany. Here an “e-assist” bike has a battery and a small motor at the pedal. A small computer, mounted within easy reach on the handlebar, allows the rider to set the pedal assistance level from “none” up to “boost”. That “boost” function helps you get up the hills, making what looks like an “oh my gosh” to “hey, that was easy!”. Each bike shop provides a short lesson in how to work the controls before you set off.
