July 4, 2026 marks the 250th celebration of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of our
nation. Over our 32 years of publication, GL has celebrated the German Americans who dared to travel to and then shaped a new life here. A multitude of influential individuals have graced issue after issue, and we recognize there are so many more people and stories to share. On the eve of the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation, it seems appropriate to share a small selection of those German Americans around the Philadelphia area who offered a guiding hand—a German American thread— as businessmen, statesmen, and through military service.
