The World BEAThoven Album

Inspired by the work on 179 European folk songs which Ludwig van Beethoven reworked and rearranged for the Scottish publisher George Thomson between 1809 and 1820, this extraordinary project with an international artist network (approximately 150 actively involved) was created to celebrate Beethoven’s 250th birthday.

Twenty melodies from Beethoven’s works were recorded by musicians from the Cologne-Bonn region on non-European musical instruments. This sample databank was created under the direction of Hans Simmer’s sample library developer Felix Ohlert and then used by music producers around the world as the basis for new electronic music titles.
