“To a peaceful Wiesn!” greetings will be shared by Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter as he opens the world’s largest folk festival at noon on Saturday, September 16 in the Schottenhamel Festthalle. Munich’s Oktoberfest is steeped with these traditional events over an eighteen-day celebration period. The first is the tapping ceremony followed by the firing of twelve gunshots in front of the Bavaria statue to signal to all the other festival tents that Oktoberfest is officially open, and beer can be served.
