German Nourishment: Shared through Locality and Totality

Many cultures express themselves through the special food and drink consumed by their people. Germans around the world are no different in this respect but there are two crucial terms to consider with this nourishment: locality and totality.


As a product of a fully Pennsylvania German household—raised by my born-on-the-farm dad and mostly homemaker mother—I can truly say that food traditions are passed down through the generations and often are as big a part of a family’s history as the names and dates of the individuals involved.
